Meta-owned instant messenger WhatsApp has announced an exciting new update for Android users. According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is introducing a feature that allows users to be informed about the availability of channels. This feature is an extension of the app’s one-way broadcast private tool, known as “WhatsApp Channels.”
Android users of WhatsApp will be pleasantly surprised by the notification feature, as they will be instantly informed about the accessibility of a particular channel within the app.

In the screenshot provided by WABetaInfo, beta testers will notice a new permission sheet that prompts them to enable notifications for channel availability. This sheet will only appear if the feature is enabled on the user’s version of WhatsApp.
To determine if this feature is active on their devices, users can open a channel invite link. However, it’s important to note that the channels tool is currently limited to Singapore and Colombia. Therefore, users must access a channel created in one of these countries to experience its full functionality.
Although users can only follow channels when they become available in their respective countries, they will benefit from the notification feature, which will alert them as soon as the channels are open for joining.
This update has surprised many WhatsApp users, as the company has never before provided a tool to send notifications about the availability of new features.
The feature is currently rolling out to select Android beta testers who have downloaded the latest update from the Google Play Store. In the coming days, it will be made available to an even larger user base.
